OnePlus 5T out of stock in India, time to wait for the OnePlus 6

It hasn’t been more than five months, but the OnePlus 5T has already gone out of stock in India, which can only mean one thing – the OnePlus 6 is coming. OnePlus’ current flagship went out of stock in North America earlier this month, and now it looks like the flagship will not be returning to the company’s official site in India as well. You can still purchase the 5T via e-commerce platform Amazon India, but only the 64GB variant is currently available while the 128GB has been removed. So basically this might be the last few days to get the 64GB OnePlus 5T in India, especially if you’re not too kicked about the notched OnePlus 6 that’s on its way.

The OnePlus 5T going out of stock on OnePlus’ official site and Amazon India strongly suggests the company has achieved its target number in India and is now readying itself to launch the OnePlus 6 soon. The OnePlus 5T has been one of the company’s best-selling smartphone. In fact, the phone was sold out within 5 minutes when it went on a preview sale on Amazon India back in November and even broke launch day sales record on the e-commerce platform. The success of the OnePlus 5T in India has not been surprising considering the OnePlus 5 did so well, becoming the top-selling premium smartphone in India in Q3 last year with around 25 per cent market share. The company has been known to focus on one phone at a time, as OnePlus India’s General Manager, Vikas Aggarwal said a few months ago, “As a brand we want to make sure there is one device which is the latest, and the previous devices are usually sold out once the new product launches.”

The OnePlus 5T essentially took a lot of what made the OnePlus 5 work so well, and then added an edge-to-edge 18:9 display on top of it. A premium design language with top-of-the-line hardware at Rs 32,999 made it an excellent value for money offering. Perhaps the only point of concern were the cameras, which could be overlooked if you don’t compare it to high-end phones like the Pixel 2 and iPhone X. A little over three months now, and it looks like OnePlus is now ready to start its next chapter with the OnePlus 6, which could be unveiled by the end of April or early May. The company also confirmed the name of the phone by posting a teaser on Twitter this week.

OnePlus over the past few weeks has been increasingly talking about its next flagship smartphone. What we do know for sure is that the presumed OnePlus 6 will come with a display notch, something that has become increasingly common on Android phones this year. OnePlus, for its part, has been actively defending the notch, claiming that it is a necessary move to provide the maximum screen real estate without compromising on hardware.

— Thanks to the notch, OnePlus says its smartphone will have the biggest display on a OnePlus phone yet. OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will offer 90 per cent screen-to-body-ratio.

— You can also expect a dual rear camera and a fingerprint sensor on the rear of the upcoming OnePlus 6. Based on the leaked images so far, the rear cameras will be placed vertically on the centre above the fingerprint sensor rather than on the top left corner as seen on the OnePlus 5/5T.

— A leaked image posted by tipster Evan Blass confirmed that the OnePlus 6 will retain the headphone jack. Carl Pei posted a poll on Twitter a while early asking fans to vote on whether they prefer the jack or not, and the result was unanimously for the headphone jack. Unfortunately, no such poll was created for the notch.

— The OnePlus 6 is expected to be powered by a Snapdragon 845 chipset. You can also expect 6GB and 8GB of RAM options much like the OnePlus 5T with 64GB and 128GB of internal storage, respectively.

— The upcoming OnePlus smartphone is expected to run close to stock Android 8.0 Oreo out-of-the-box. You can also expect Dash Charge and dual-SIM support as well.

— Most recently, alleged pricing of the OnePlus 6 leaked online, suggesting the phone will be offered in three storage variants with the base model coming with 64GB storage. This will be followed by 128GB and 256GB internal storage models. As for the pricing is concerned, the OnePlus 6 is said to launch at a starting price of $523, which translates to approximately Rs 34,000 for the 64GB model.

— OnePlus has typically priced its phones very competitively in the Indian market. The OnePlus 5T was launched with a price tag similar to the OnePlus 5 at Rs 32,999 for the base variant. It is still unclear whether the company will be able to keep a similar pricing for the OnePlus 6, or we could see the base variant launch just a few notches higher at Rs 34,000.
