iPhone users who paid the original price for battery replacement can now get Rs 3,900 credit from Apple, here’s how

Apple, late last year made headlines when it was found that the company deliberately throttles performance of some iPhones to save battery life and prevent unexpected device shutdowns.

After the news spread, the Cupertino-based technology giant apologised and announced a battery replacement program for old iPhones. Under this, the company reduced the price of an out-of-warranty iPhone battery replacement by Rs 3,900 — from Rs 5,900 to Rs 2,000 — for users whose iPhone’s battery needed to be replaced.

Before Apple confirmed this, there were several users who had paid full price (Rs 5,900) to get their iPhone’s battery replaced at authorised retail stores. Now all those who paid Rs 5,900 for the battery replacement are getting a chance to get Rs 3,900 back.

One of the dedicated support pages on the Apple website reveals that the company is giving Rs 3,900 credit to those who paid for an out-of-warranty battery replacement for iPhone 6 or later devices. This refund is for those who paid for these between January 1, 2017 and December 28, 2017. Also, the replacement should have been done at an Apple Store, Apple Repair Center, or an Apple Authorized Service Provider if users want to get the refund.

Apple says that this Rs 3,900 will be transferred electronically or will be credited if the payment was made via credit cards. Those eligible will be contacted by Apple via an email between May 23, 2018 and July 27, 2018 with further instructions on how to exactly get the refund.

The page further says that those customers who have not yet received an e-mail from Apple about the credit can contact the firm from their support page until December 21, 2018. They will, however, have to give proof of battery replacement from an Apple authorized service centre/store.

It is worth adding that in-warranty iPhone battery replacements are not eligible for this.

Meanwhile, Apple is also gearing up to launch the latest version of its mobile operating system, iOS, at the upcoming WWDC 2018 conference. It recently sent out invitations for the event that is scheduled to be held on June 4 at McEnery Convention Center, San Jose, California.
