With more than 2 billion active users worldwide, Meta-owned WhatsApp is clearly the most popular messaging app globally. However, WhatsApp users are hit by a new bug which is causing the app to crash. When WhatsApp users are clicking on the link “wa.me/settings”, the users are led to a crash loop on Android smartphones. This bug that is causing WhatsApp on Android to crash was first discovered by PandyaMayur on Twitter and it was explained by Brute Bee.
According to Android Authority, this only appears to be a problem on the Android version of WhatsApp but does appear to affect both the consumer and business versions of the app. The device tested by the publication was running version 2.23.10.77 of the messaging platform, although other versions might also be affected.
The simple link “wa.me/settings” is apparently causing WhatsApp on Android to crash. Otherwise, clicking on “wa.me/settings” would link to WhatsApp’s settings.
How To Stop WhatsApp On Android From Crashing Due To This Link
Despite the fact that WhatsApp users globally have been impacted by this issue, there is a fix for it, albeit a temporary one. Deleting the chat completely can help get rid of the link ridden with bug, according to XDA Developers. Those affected by the issue can go to WhatsApp Web through a browser, navigate to the affected chat and delete the problem link instead.
Meanwhile, Meta-owned WhatsApp is giving iPhone users the ability to use one WhatsApp account on multiple devices. Almost a month after launching “Companion Mode” which lets Android users link their WhatsApp accounts on multiple devices, the same feature is being rolled out for iOS users. According to WhatsApp updates tracker WABetaInfo, as per the official changelog for the latest WhatsApp for iOS 23.10.76 update available on the App Store, WhatsApp is finally releasing the ability to link an iPhone as a second device for everyone.
